Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is encouraging residents to report so-called “misinformation” from their neighbors ahead of November’s election.
“Misinformation about the election process, voter rights, or even an issue on the ballot is a serious threat to election security,” reads an online document from Benson’s office. “If you see misleading or inaccurate information regarding voting or elections in Michigan, please report it.”
The document requests residents email reports of election “misinformation” – with “an image if possible” – to misinformation@michigan.gov. Benson’s office solicits residents to report misinformation on its “voter education resources” page.
The Federalist asked Benson’s office who this email reaches and how the state responds to alleged “misinformation,” but her office did not comment in time for publication.
Benson’s office published another document discussing this so-called election “misinformation,” calling it “the most potentially damaging threat to our democracy.” It blamed “partisans, grifters, and other opportunists here at home” for “hacking the minds of American citizens,” and called on residents to enforce the official narrative.
“Citizens can and should join this effort,” the document reads, “calling out misinformation when they see it and insisting that we hold people accountable for spreading lies about elections.”
For “trusted” information, Benson’s office refers residents to its own “fact check” page, FactCheck.org, PolitiFact, and Snopes. The latter three have shown their colors as leftist information gatekeepers.
Benson, a Democrat, launched a “Democracy Ambassador” program for residents last week, according to a press release. The state sends supposedly “nonpartisan facts and resources” to residents who join, and it encourages them to share these approved messages “within their communities” where they will “combat any election-related misinformation.”
Participants will “squash misinformation before it spreads,” Benson said in the press release.
The state’s “Democracy Ambassador” webpage says the program consists of three steps: sign up to receive approved information, share that information, and sign up to be a poll worker.
Democrat Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel spoke to journalists last month, emphasizing “collaboration” between officials and the media in her effort to “eliminate misinformation from social media platforms.”
Meanwhile, Benson has come under fire recently for a host of election integrity failures.
Under “voting initiatives and resources,” Benson’s office directs residents to Vote411 – which, as The Federalist previously reported, feeds voter information to a leftist data harvesting scheme. The Federalist asked Benson’s office for comment on Vote411’s alleged data harvesting, but her office did not comment in time for publication.
Benson also hosted David Becker of the Center for Election Innovation and Research at a press conference Monday. Alongside the Center for Tech and Civic Life, which gave at least $328 million in “Zuckbucks” in 2020, CEIR funneled $70 million from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to local election agencies, advancing voting practices that favor the left.
In December last year, Benson issued a manual instructing clerks that absentee ballot signatures were entitled to a “presumption of validity.” A Michigan judge struck down the guidance as unconstitutional in a final order on Tuesday.
And in a demand letter to Benson in May, the Republican National Committee alleged that she failed to clean the voter rolls of 92,000 inactive registrants. [SOURCE]
The Iranian attack on Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran last week is expected to come as early as Monday, three US and Israeli officials told Axios reporter Barak Ravid on Sunday.
Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, arrived in the Middle East early Sunday morning amid Hezbollah and Iran's threats against Israel, Walla reported on Sunday, citing two senior US officials.
The aim of the visit, which was planned before the current escalation, is to prepare a coalition to counter such threats, the report added.
Several Iranian officials vowed that the country would avenge Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination, as Israel remains on high alert for a potential attack and the United States is sending additional forces to the region.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said on Saturday that revenge will be “severe and at an appropriate time, place, and manner,” blaming the “terrorist Zionist regime” for Haniyeh’s death.
In addition, the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations told CBS News in an exclusive on Friday that Hezbollah would begin deliberately targeting Israeli civilians – claiming that it had not done so until now.
The Lebanese-based terrorist group has reportedly decided to increase its targets in attacks in response to the assassination of its commander, Fuad Shukr.
“Until now, Hezbollah and the [Zionist] regime have, in an unwritten understanding, practically adhered to certain limits in their military operations, meaning that confining their actions to border areas and shallow zones, targeting primarily military objectives,” a spokesperson from the delegation told CBS News.
“However, the regime’s attack on Dahieh in Beirut and the targeting of a residential building marked a deviation from these boundaries,” the spokesperson said. “We anticipate that, in its response, Hezbollah will choose both broader and deeper targets, and will not restrict itself solely to military targets and means.”
An Israeli official told CBS News that while Iran’s April 13 attack was thwarted, Israel was anticipating a “more aggressive” retaliation this time around – a retaliation which could extend to Israeli interests abroad.
The US military will deploy additional fighter jets and Navy warships to the Middle East, the Pentagon said on Friday, as Washington seeks to bolster defenses following threats from Iran and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.
The US is bracing for Iran to make good on its vow to respond to the killing of Haniyeh two days ago in the Iranian capital Tehran.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had approved sending additional Navy cruisers and destroyers – which can shoot down ballistic missiles – to the Middle East and Europe.
It is also sending an additional squadron of fighter jets to the Middle East.
“Austin has ordered adjustments to US military posture designed to improve US force protection, to increase support for the defense of Israel, and to ensure the United States is prepared to respond to various contingencies,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
There had been speculation that the Pentagon might not replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group in the Middle East once it completed its ongoing deployment. But Austin decided to rotate in the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to replace it.
The Pentagon statement added it would increase readiness to deploy more land-based ballistic missile defenses.
The US military also intensified deployments prior to April 13, when Iran launched an attack on Israeli territory with drones and missiles. Still, the threat from Hezbollah in Lebanon could present unique challenges to any efforts by Washington to intercept drones and missiles, given the group’s vast arsenal and immediate proximity to the Jewish state.
At the time, Israel successfully shot down almost all of the roughly 300 drones and missiles with the help of the United States and other allies.
Earlier, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said the US did not believe escalation was inevitable.
“I think we are being very direct in our messaging that certainly we don’t want to see heightened tensions, and we do believe there is an off ramp here – and that is that ceasefire deal,” Singh said.
An Israeli delegation will travel to Cairo in the coming days for negotiations to reach a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said on Friday.[SOURCE]

In July, X owner Elon Musk gave a heartbreaking explanation of how he was tricked into supporting his son Xavier’s determination to “transition” into a woman and how it has shaped his political views.
Ben Kew reported on Elon’s interview with The Daily Wire’s Jordan Peterson. During their conversation, Musk explained that he signed the consent papers for his son’s puberty blockers without fully realizing the consequences of what he was doing.

MUSK: It happened to one of my older boys, where I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was before I really had any understanding of what was going on. We had COVID going on and so there was a lot of confusion. You know I was told Xavier might commit suicide.
PETERSON: That was a lie right from the outset. No reliable clinician ever believed that. There was never any evidence for that. And if there was a higher suicide rate, it was because of the underlying depression and anxiety because of the gender dysphoria. And every God damn clinician knows that too. And they are too cowardly to come out and say it.
When I saw that lie start to propagate it just made the back of my hair stand up. So you’re telling parents that unless they agree to this radical transformation that their children are going to die and you think that is moral and you think that is true. That is so pathological that it is almost incomprehensible. I can’t imagine a therapist doing anything worse than that.
MUSK: It’s incredibly evil. And I completely agree that people promoting this should go to prison.
PETERSON: It won’t stop till that happens. It will just go underground. Puberty blockers are being accessed by kids all the time through non medical channels.

Death came hours after Israel said it killed a top Hezbollah commander in Beirut, fuelling fears of regional conflict.
Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was killed by a strike in Tehran in the early hours of Wednesday morning, only hours after Israel said it had killed a top Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
The dual assassinations are heavy blows to Hamas and Hezbollah, but also raise the stakes for Iran, which backs both groups and vowed revenge. They will fuel growing fears that the war in Gaza could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
A senior Hamas official described Haniyeh’s killing as a “cowardly act that will not go unpunished”. Mediators Qatar and Egypt warned it would set back talks on a ceasefire and a deal to release hostages held in Gaza.
Haniyeh was targeted by an airstrike at a “residence in Tehran”, Hamas said, after he travelled to the Iranian capital for the inauguration of the country’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that because the attack took place in Tehran, “we consider his revenge as our duty”. Pezeshkian said his country would defend its territorial integrity and honour, and make the “terrorist occupiers regret their cowardly action”.
The Israeli government officially declined to comment on Haniyeh’s death, but the strike was widely acknowledged as an Israeli operation both inside the country and beyond.
Israel vowed to kill all Hamas leaders after the 7 October attacks, and its intelligence services have a history of carrying out covert killings inside Iran, mostly targeting scientists working on the country’s nuclear programme.
The retired general Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israel’s Military Intelligence Directorate, described the attacks on Wednesday night as “two quality operations of Israel defence forces against two top terrorists, one in Beirut and one in Tehran”.
The US defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, speaking after the assassinations, said the Biden administration was “doing things to take the temperature down” but would come to Israel’s defence if it were attacked.
US officials have led a global months-long diplomatic effort to prevent the war in Gaza escalating into a broader regional conflict, but they now face an even steeper challenge.
Austin, who is visiting the Philippines, said he believed a wider conflagration could be avoided, despite the threat of revenge. “I don’t think war is inevitable. I maintain that,” he told reporters.
The senior Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk told a Hamas-run TV channel that Haniyeh’s killing was a “cowardly act that will not go unpunished”. Sami Abu Zuhri, another official, told Reuters it was “a grave escalation” that would not achieve its goals.
Hamas has survived past assassinations of its top leaders, including Haniyeh’s mentor Ahmed Yassin in 2004, and Haniyeh did not command operations on the ground in Gaza after leaving for exile in 2019.
Hamas fighters inside Gaza are led by Yahya Sinwar, thought to be the mastermind of the 7 October attacks in which about 1,200 people were killed and 250 were taken hostage.
The Biden administration has been pushing hard in recent months for at least a temporary ceasefire and hostage-release deal in Gaza, where the territory’s health authorities says nearly 40,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 90,000 wounded since 8 October.
The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said on Wednesday that Washington had not been aware of or involved in Haniyeh’s assassination, and that a ceasefire deal for Gaza was still vital.
But negotiations are likely to be frozen after the attacks of recent days, and particularly after the killing of Haniyeh, who played a key role in talks from his Doha base. Qatar described the attack as a “dangerous escalation” that put ceasefire talks in jeopardy.
“How can mediation succeed when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side?” the country’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, wrote on X, joining a regional chorus of condemnation.
Russia and Turkey condemned Haniyeh’s assassination, with Moscow describing it as a “completely unacceptable political killing”, the Tass news agency reported.
Haniyeh’s funeral will be held in Iran on Thursday, and the country has declared three days of mourning. His body will then be flown to Doha for burial.
Haniyeh’s death came hours after Israel claimed it had killed Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fuad Shukur, in an airstrike on a south Beirut suburb launched in retaliation for a rocket attack that killed 12 children at the weekend.
Hezbollah confirmed on Wednesday that Shukur had been killed in the attack.
Lebanon’s foreign minister said the strike was a shock after assurances from Israel’s allies that the country planned a “limited response” that “would not produce a war”.
“That’s what we’re afraid of,” Abdallah Bou Habib told the Guardian. “We did not expect to be hit in Beirut. We thought these were red lines that the Israelis would respect.”
The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, condemned Haniyeh’s assassination, calling it a “cowardly act and dangerous development”.
Streets in Ramallah, where the Palestinian Authority is based, were empty after Palestinian national and Islamic factions called for a general strike and mass demonstrations.
Haniyeh had repeatedly urged Palestinians to be “steadfast” after Israel killed his mentor and members of his family. His own death is likely to elicit a similar response from other Hamas leaders.
After an airstrike killed three of his sons and four grandchildren in April he insisted in an interview with Al Jazeera that his personal loss would not prompt Hamas to shift its position in negotiations.
News of the assassinations was largely greeted with delight in Israel, as part completion of a promise to hunt down the men responsible for the 7 October atrocity.
Social media was filled with triumphant memes. The cabinet minister Amichai Chikli shared footage of Haniyeh apparently nodding to chants of “death to Israel”, with the caption “Careful what you wish for” in a post on X.
It was also seen as revindication for the security forces after the failures of 7 October. “It really revives a little bit of the lost dignity of the intelligence community of Israel,” said Tamir Hayman, a retired general who like Yadlin served as head of defence intelligence.
But the tactical impact of two complex strikes in the heart of regional capitals would not change Israel’s overall position, 10 months into its war in Gaza, he said.
“I’m not neglecting the importance of this, but in terms of the overall strategic posture of Israel and the complicated situation we are facing to stop the war and achieve all our goals, it really does not change a lot,” he said.
He
called on the government to use its military advantage now to push for a
ceasefire deal and the return of hostages, and then turn its attention
to securing the northern border. “If we continue [relying] on those very
good tactical achievements, we are basically in the same place we have
been yesterday,” he said.
